Magdalene group wants report on supports for survivors

Galway bay fm newsroom - The group Magdelene Survivors Together is calling for the urgent publication of a report commissioned to examine possible supports for the women.

The call comes as a follow-up document to the McAleese findings is being published today which considers the facts set out by Senator Martin McAleese.

There were 10 Magdalene laundries in the Republic - the Sisters of Mercy operated the Magdalene laundry at Forster Street in the city  which closed in 1984.

The Irish Human Rights Commission launches it's report on State Involvement with the Magdalene institutions later this morning.

A third document, the Quirke report, into the issue of compensation was given to the Justice Minister last month.

Spokesperson for the group, Stephen O'Riordan, says the women want to see this report released as soon as possible
