LOUGHREA NUNS LOSE BID TO DEMOLISH VICTORIAN GATELODGE

The Sisters of Mercy in Loughrea have lost an appeal to demolish a derelict rat-infested gatelodge at the convent on Cross street.Earlier this year, Galway County Council granted permission to the Sisters to widen the gates at the Convent but refused permission to knock the gatelodge.This refusal was appealled to An Bord Pleanla, but the Board has upheld the stance of the County Council.
