The IDA had a net gain of 630 new jobs in Galway and Mayo last year.

985 new jobs were created while 355 were lost.

78 IDA companies in Galway and Mayor currently employ 14,000 people.

The positive figures for the West region are in line with the national picture of the number of net jobs created in IDA companies in 2012 was the highest in a decade.

The agency, which is responsible for attracting foreign direct investment, said a total of 12,700 new jobs were created last year, while just over 6,150 were lost.

It brought net job creation to a ten year high of 6,500.

Over 40 percent of the new investments announced last year were from companies coming to Ireland for the first time and the biggest investments were made by US companies Apple, PayPal, Northern Trust, and EA Games.

IDA chief Barry O'Leary says they fully expect to build on last year's success in 2013.
