The Managing Director of Galway airport has described Aer Arann's decision to suspend all of its flights in and out of the Carnmore facility as a "huge blow".

From the end of this month, flights between the airport and London, Manchester, Edinburgh and Waterford will stop for the winter season.

Talks with Aer Arann's 35 flight deck and cabin crew at Galway are underway.

It's understood staff are being offered the option to re-locate or the choice to take unpaid leave through the winter.

Managing Director of Galway Airport, Joe Walsh says there will be significant jobs losses.

Earlier this year Aer Arann was forced to abandon regional services including its Galway to Dublin flights after Government subsidy funding was pulled.

Aer Arann spokesperson Andrew Kelly says they've been struggling for months to keep certain services running.
