The HSE is to meet with consultants on Thursday to finalise future arrangements for the staffing of Galway's Child Sexual Assault Unit.

It says the unit continues to operate as normal.

The statement follows reports that the facility, which is Ireland's only such dedicated 24-hour service, could be threatened with closure following staff resignations in protest at resource shortages.

The executive stresses that there is no question of a reduction in the funding available for this unit.
