THE care provided to all critically ill patients at Galway University Hospital will also come under scrutiny in the Hiqa inquiry into the death of Savita Halappanaver.
According to a report in "The Sunday Business Post" the health watchdog Hiqa is expected to extend the remit of it's Galway inquiry beyond just pregnant women or the late Savita.
The report states that while Hiqa has yet to publish terms of reference for its statutory investigation, it will also benchmark the care provided against the international evidence of what is known to achieve best outcomes.
The newspaper story also states that in previous reports, Hiqa has made extensive recommendations on how to improve care and all six Hiqa statutory investigations have resulted in a number of national recommendations.
