HEAD OF FISHERIES IRELAND CALLS FOR CONSULTATIONS ON FISH FARM

Date Published: 21-May-2012
The head of operations at Inland Fisheries Ireland has called for more detailed consultations on a proposed fish farm off the Aran Island of Inis Oírr.
Dr.Greg Forde says there is potential for the farm to have a negative impact on the environment.
Bord Iascaigh Mharaigh has applied for a deep sea salmon farming licence at a site around 6 kilometres off Inis Oírr.
If it gets the go ahead, the farm will produce around 100 million euro worth of salmon a year and create over 300 jobs.
Speaking on this programme, Greg Forde says further investigation needs to take place before this plan gets the all clear
