GROUP CLAIMS PORTIUNCULA HOSPITAL TO BE DOWNGRADED

A lobby group has expressed concern about alleged bed closures at Portiuncula hospital in Ballinasloe.The Health Service Action Group is claiming the HSE plans to move all acute services in Portiuncula to UHG by 2009.The group says the alleged bed closures will put more pressure on emergency services provided by University Hospital Galway.However, a HSE spokesperson has refuted the group's claims stating there's currently major investment and development taking place at Portiuncula.
