MERVUE United manager Johnny Glynn believed that, despite the scoreline, there were a significant number of positives to be taken out of his side’s performance against a skillful Limerick team on Friday night: the team’s first ever goal in the league, the number of chances created, and the 'never say die’ attitude of his troops. In truth the Blues used their collective experience to punish the naive defending and lack of experience of their opponents. Paul Cummins was the first to test Mervue custodian Ryan Griffin with a low drive in the 12th minute, which Griffin did well to push around the post.Limerick controlled the opening exchanges and took a deserved lead when ex-Cork City defender Brian O Callaghan expertly directed a header past Griffin in the 23rd minute from his side’s seventh corner of the opening exchanges.
