Gardaí have made a renewed appeal for assistance in their efforts to identify the body of a man who was found last September in the Barna area.

Foul play is not suspected in relation to the death – it is being treated as a tragic incident – but since the discovery of the body on September 27 last, Gardai haven’t succeeded in identifying the remains.

A passerby discovered the body of the man at Rusheen Bay Woods, Barna – he is thought to have been aged between 30 and 40 years and was a well built man about six feet tall.

Gardaí are hoping that some hotel or guesthouse owner in the greater Barna and Galway area may have some knowledge of a guest who left their premises in the weeks prior to September 27 last – a particularly good spell of weather.

They are also hoping that someone may have seen the unidentified man walking in the Rusheen Bay Woods area in the weeks prior to September 27 – he may have been dead for some time before he was discovered.

One theory being pursued by Gardaí is that the unidentified man could possibly be of North American origin, given the clothing he was wearing, and the fact that he had some US dollars on his person when discovered.

One of the distinctive items worn by the man was a gold bracelet watch branded Caravelle by Bulova – a watch commonly available in retail outlets across Canada.

The deceased work a black leather XXL jacket (cropped at the waist style); a dark grey, long sleeved microfleece top Athletech brand; a long sleeved white/cream coloured top; blue jeans; an Athletech brand of white and blue runners; and a black leather belt with a silver buckle and metal flower studs across the length of the belt.

He also had a single silver key with the letters EPA inscribed – it is described as a Yale lock type key which is used for an eye entry level lock.

Anyone with information, however small, on the unidentified man have been asked to contact Salthill Garda Station at 091-514720. Hotel, guesthouse owners and landlords have been especially asked to check back on their records on the weeks prior to September 27, 2014.
