Gardai issue warning to pedestrians in Galway

Galway bay fm newsroom -

Gardaí have launched a campaign on pedestrian safety for Galway, Mayo, Roscommon, Clare and Longford.

According to Garda statistics, 27 people lost their lives in the western Garda division in 2013.

4 of those were pedestrians in County Galway.

Gardaí are advising pedestrians to make themselves safer by bearing in mind the following points:

Stop, look and listen before crossing the road

Don't try and cross from between parked cars or lorries

If possible, cross at a pedestrian crossing or traffic lights

If there is a footpath, use it and if there is no footpath, use the righ-hand-side of the road facing oncoming traffic.

If the road is narrow, walk in single file if accompanied.
