GALWAY ULSTER BANK BRANCH OPENS TO DEAL WITH PAYMENT ISSUES

Date Published: 23-Jun-2012
The Galway branch of Ulster Bank in Eyre Square will open with extended hours today to help deal with customers unable to access salaries or benefit payments.
Over 100 thousand people, including hundreds from Galway, have been affected by a systems failure - which stopped the processing new payments into and out of accounts.
34 branches in the republic are open from 10 to 3 today, with some branches also opening tomorrow from 10 to 1.
Ulster Bank customers expecting payments can bring ID and a payslip or welfare details to receive money.
Customers of other institutions have been urged to contact their own banks, which should facilitate them with an overdraft without fees.
A spokesperson for the bank says the backlog in sorting out payments will be fully cleared by Monday morning.
