A song by a Galway musician has been chosen for a compilation of so-called ‘lost songs’ produced in the studio of choice for the likes of Queen, Michael Jackson, Led Zeppelin and Adele.

Clarenbridge native Gustin Forde emigrated to Guildford in the UK to pursue his dream of becoming a professional musician by enrolling in a top music college in 2010.

Gustin – short for Augustin – grew up surrounded by music. His father was a drummer, guitarist and singer with the Glensiders and the Red River Valley Boys while his cousin was in the local Irish country group The Oyster Boys.

“I had my first gig at the age of ten or eleven with my father. The keyboardist was sick so my I played with his band. I then graduated to guitar, bass guitar and singing.”

He first studied a higher diploma and then a degree in rock music at the Academy of Contemporary music, creating an EP of self-penned tunes for his dissertation assignment.

After completing the course, he returned home for a year where he got work gigging around Galway and Clare with several bands including a céilí group before deciding to return to the UK and concentrate on his first love - rock music.

His song, Everyday, was inspired by a girl he met at the college. “It went well but I moved back to Ireland. I don’t really like talking about that kind of thing,” he admits shyly.

The compilation Lost Songs Volume 1, due for release on M:89 Records on June 3, is the brainchild of Welsh songwriter Alun Davies – known as Adman – who writes for the music collective, Ticking Tree. The group features a host of talented session musicians who have worked with the likes of One Direction, The Overtones, James Morrison and Take That.
