GALWAY EAST TD QUELLS FEARS OF SILAGE CUTTING BAN IN DESIGNATED AREAS

Date Published: 02-Aug-2012
Galway East TD Paul Connaughton has ruled out the likelihood of a planned clamp-down on grass or silage cutting in special designated areas.
It follows an ongoing dispute between the government and raised bog owners at 12 complexes around the county where turf cutting is banned due to an EU directive.
A nationwide review is also due to commence in the coming months to examine the status of 75 NHA national heritage areas.
Deputy Connaughton told Galway Talks that he doesn't believe rules will be introduced that would also place a ban on the cutting of grass or silage on such SACs.
