Rabbitt rails against LGFA over slant on semis mess

IT was not the way Sinead Burke would have wanted her sterling 17-year career with Galway ladies footballers to have finished last December.

An eleventh-hour switch of venue and a rushed warm-up for their All-Ireland semi-final against Cork left the Tribeswomen ‘catching their breath’ from the throw-in.

A bad start against the Rebels ensured Galway were soon playing catch up – a chase they never got to grips with in falling to a 2-17 0-13 defeat.

The late switch of venue that morning from a frozen Parnell Park to Croke Park would have caused some panic in the Galway camp, but nothing compared to the impact of a significantly restricted warm-up under the impatient eyes of match officials.

With Cork having travelled to Dublin the previous evening, it meant their pre-match preparations were less disrupted for a semi-final which also went without live TV coverage due to the change of venue.

After the match, outgoing Galway manager Tim Rabbitt didn’t hold back in expressing his frustration over their shoddy treatment and regret at not pulling his team from the semi-final.
