Gardaí are investigating the alleged theft ‘high value’ theatre equipment from the terminal at Galway Aiport where a Galway 2020 event was being staged prior to the outbreak of Covid-19.

Branar Téatar do Pháistí had been running Sruth na Teanga, an immersive theatre production, at the facility in early March, but its run was cut short when restrictions were introduced.

At the end of March, a Covid-19 drive-through testing centre was established at the airport and access has been tightly controlled ever since, but it has come to light that a number of items were discovered missing by the theatre company when they tried to retrieve them as restrictions eased in recent weeks.

The Galway City Tribune has learned that highly expensive projectors and lighting equipment are missing, with Gardaí confirming that they are investigating an alleged burglary at the Carnmore facility.

It is understood that the some of the equipment had been hired by Branar to stage what was the first large-scale production to take place as part of the Galway 2020 programme of events.

According to a Garda spokesperson, the items went missing on a date unknown between April 16 and July 3, when the matter was reported.

Gardaí are appealing to anyone with information to contact them at Galway Garda Station on 091 538000.
