'Extremely drunk' Galway man faces judge again just one day after conditional discharge

He was arrested not even 24 hours later and when interviewed, he said that he had consumed vodka and was 'extremely drunk' and 'couldn't give an explanation' for what he had done.
A Galway man has appeared at Derry Magistrate's Court charged with attempted criminal damage and disorderly behaviour after being given a conditional discharge the day before.
Michael Mongan (30) of Camillaun Park in Westside was given a conditional discharge for drug possession and theft on June 29 and was arrested on June 30 after police observed him throwing a can of alcohol at the window of the Holiday Inn where he had been residing.
Staff had initially observed two males involved in an altercation and became concerned that there would be some sort of attack.
Mongan was then seen to throw a can of alcohol at the window but no damage was caused.
When interviewed, he said that he had consumed vodka and was “extremely drunk” and “couldn't give an explanation” for what he had done.
Police say that he “showed remorse” and apologised for what had happened.
Defence solicitor Keith Kyle said that Mongan had pleaded guilty to the offences, telling the court that, after being released from custody, he had gone out drinking, allegedly consuming fifteen pints before having “some sort of altercation”.
He said that Mongan can no longer go back to the Holiday Inn where he had been residing. He was sentenced to three months in custody, suspended for one year.
