Former Mayor of Galway Niall O'Brolcháin must wait until the autumn to find out if he will become a Senator. The Green Party Parliamentary Secretary and former city councillor is a contender to fill one of two vacant Seanad seats through the death of Tony Kett and the election of Senator Alan Kelly as an MEP. However a Seanad bye-election won't now be held until after the Dáil summer recess.
