Former Galway hurler knows the Scór

GREAT oaks from little acorns grow and for former Galway hurler Paul Flaherty this certainly holds true with his ‘What’s the Scór’ app for GAA club matches now set to expand further across the country – and the globe too.

A few years back, Paul Flaherty – a dual player with Monivea-Abbey footballers and Abbeyknockmoy hurlers – needed to know the result of a football championship match between Moycullen and Milltown.

The result of that game would determine whether Monivea would remain in the championship or not and whether Paul and his team-mates would have to go to training that evening.

There and then, he made up his mind, that there was a gap in the market for a service that would provide ‘as-it-happens’ updates on club matches in Galway and across other counties as well.

From those humble origins, ‘What’s the Scór’ was born in 2019 and although it had to take a backseat for a time due to the Covid pandemic, Paul has now moved in on to a new and more exciting phase.

“We decided to embark on a Spark Crowdfunding venture with a target of raising €100,000 from small investors right across the country and thankfully we’re set to reach, and even exceed, that target figure this week.

“We’ve attracted a whole network of small investors who will now have a share in the company as well, while they will also qualify for significant tax relief (up to 40%) on their investment,” Paul Flaherty, CEO of What’s the Scór, told the Connacht Tribune.
