EU Committee to visit West of Ireland
The European Parliament's Petitions Committee is to visit the West of Ireland later this year, to get a first hand look at what infrastructure is needed.
Petitioners for West on Track had taken their case to Europe hoping that the project would at least be considered for funding.
The Petitions Committee also intends to contact Minister Leo Varadkar seeking a detailed breakdown of expenditure of EU funds on public transport for the Border, Midlands and West region.
In September, the Committee will visit the BMW region to get an understanding of the region's need for infrastructure.
MEP Jim Higgins says he wants to know where money, which is supposed to be invested in the West, is actually going.
