Folk group De Dannan will give a special Christmas concert in Fairhill House Hotel, Clonbur, on Sunday, December 30.

It’s been a busy year for the band, who played a storming set on the main stage at the Volvo Ocean Race, took part in festivals in Finland, Switzerland and the USA and also headlined a sold-out concert at the Cavan Equestrian Centre for Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann in August.

De Dannan founding members Alec Finn and Johnny 'Ringo' McDonagh will be joined by Eleanor Shanley (vocals), Mick Conneely (fiddle / whistle / bouzouki), Derek Hickey (accordion) and Brian McGrath (banjo/piano) for an evening of vibrant instrumental fireworks, and all the classic songs that have made De Dannan a household name for nearly 30 years.

Since 1975 the band have recorded 14 albums including Anthem, Star Spangled Molly and The Mist Covered Mountain and have achieved chart success, with many of their albums reaching gold and platinum status. Famous for their cross-cultural experiments, they recorded traditional Irish versions of The Beatles Hey Jude and Handel's The Arrival of the Queen of Sheba. They also recorded Jewish Klezmer music with Andy Statman and made an album called Half Set in Harlem, featuring American gospel singing.

Their Clonbur concert a rare chance to catch one the great groups of traditional Irish music in an intimate surrounding.

Ticket are €18 and are available from Fairhill House Hotel 094 95 46176 or 087 1320463.
