Daniel enjoys musical breakfast on Clifden visit

He’s renowned for making women go weak at the knees, but crooner Daniel O’Donnell last week showed he can also bring tears to the eyes of elderly gentlemen!
Clifden pensioner John Corbett welled-up when wee Daniel sang his favourite song My Donegal Shore in his daughter’s County Galway B&B.
Daniel’s spontaneous rendition of the song he made famous in 1985 brought tears to John’s eyes when he sang the song at Connemara Country Lodge in Clifden.
Daniel and his wife Majella were out west as part of their RTÉ television series, Daniel & Majella’s B&B Road Trip, where they were hosted by Mary Corbett Joyce of the Connemara Country Lodge.
The celebrity couple’s choice of accommodation in North Connemara was fitting – the B&B is known as the ‘home of the singing breakfast’ because Mary and her daughters Stephanie and Olivia are known to serenade their guests before serving the traditional try-up.
During the programme, which was aired last week, Mary introduces Daniel and Majella to her parents John and Bridget, before he launches into a rendition of her father’s favourite song.
“Once again, my Dad was the star of the show! It was so moving. To have him in my kitchen singing for my elderly parents – I will treasure that memory for ever,” said Mary.
During the travel/entertainment show, Mary brought the pair on an obstacle course through a bog – and ended up getting covered in mud! Daniel wrote about his experience in his Sunday newspaper column last week.
Mary told the Connacht Tribune that she has been inundated with messages of support since the programme was broadcast.
“Well there is great excitement at him having stayed in my home. It was such great fun filming. I am still receiving congratulatory phone calls texts and even cards in the post, not just from locals, but from all around the country,” she added.
