Dubravko Ostojic, of no fixed abode, was brought before a special sitting of Galway District Court on Sunday evening, charged with assault causing harm.

A 33-year-old man has been further remanded in custody after he was charged in connection with the death of his 65-year-old mother, after a serious assault at an apartment complex in Galway over the weekend.

Dubravko Ostojic, of no fixed abode, was brought before a special sitting of Galway District Court on Sunday evening, charged with assault causing harm.

He appeared again this morning via videolink from Castlerea Prison when Judge Liz Healy adjourned the matter to a sitting of Galway District Court on May 11.

Milena Ostojic sustained serious wounds at her home at Claí Mór, Ballybrit, on Friday night. She was taken to UHG, where she died in the early hours of Saturday.

Sunday’s court brief hearing was told the investigation into Ms Ostojic's death was ongoing. A defence application for bail was refused, given the seriousness of the charge.

Judge Gerard Furlong had remanded the accused in custody, to appear by videolink at Galway District Court today (Monday).

He also requested that the accused be provided with all appropriate medical and psychiatric attention upon arrival at his place of detention – and that a psychiatric report be compiled as soon as possible.
