He appeared at Galway District Court on five charges
A 39-year-old man accused of having cocaine for sale or supply in Oranmore has had his case adjourned to next month.
Padraig King, with an address at Lydican Road, Kiltullagh Oranmore, appeared at Galway District Court on five charges contrary to the Misuse of Drugs Act, arising from alleged offences at Kiltullagh, Oranmore on September 20, 2024.
Sergeant Joanne McGhee told the court that the case was listed for the consideration of a signed plea of guilty or if a book of evidence will be required when the case is heard in the circuit court.
Sgt McGhee said she was aware the accused has legal representation but due to the ongoing legal aid dispute, the case would have to be adjourned to later date.
Sgt McGhee also applied for time to be extended for service of the book of evidence beyond the required 42-day period.
Judge Tom MacSharry remanded the accused on continuing bail to appear again in court on October 19.
In the case, Padraig King is charged with possession of cocaine for the purposes of sale or otherwise supply at a time when the market value of the drugs amounted to €13,000 or more, contrary to section 15 (A) of the Misuse of Drugs Act.
On conviction, section 15(A) offences carry a maximum sentence of life imprisonment and presumptive minimum sentence of 10 years.
However a court can depart from the 10-year term under specific circumstances.
The accused also face two charges of possession of cocaine contrary to section 3 of the Misuse of Drugs Act and two charges of possession of cocaine for sale or supply, contrary to section 15 of the Act.
