The Galway county registrar is to lodge a formal letter of complaint to Independent Newspapers concerning breaches of several city polling stations last week. Marian Chambers Higgins is seeking a written response from the paper explaining why free copies of the Irish Independent were left inside polling booths at the Claddagh, Dr Mannix Road, Seamus Quirke Road and Bushy Park. Many irate voters contacted Galway Bay FM News on polling day last Thursday after discovering bales of free copies of the Irish Independent left inside their polling booths in the city. The paper published a front page editorial calling for a Yes vote in the Lisbon Treaty Referendum . It's illegal to have any literature inside a polling station which may influence a voter's decision.
