COUNCILLOR CONDEMNS PLANNERS OVER LIFETIME CLAUSES

Date Published: 03-Jun-2008
A county councillor has launched a scathing attack on county planners for imposing lifetime enurement clauses on certain planning applications. The clauses were imposed in certain areas of the county and meant a house could only be occupied by the person who applied for planning permission or their heirs. Oranmore councillor Jim Cuddy has learned that despite the fact that enurement clauses have been limited to seven years since 2005, county council planners are still imposing lifetime enurement clauses on planning applications seeking retention. He claims planners are telling the public to appeal the clause to An Bord Pleanala, who will overturn the decision. But the PD councillor believes the public shouldn't have to go through the expense and stress of an appeal to An Bord Pleanala for something the planners shouldn't be imposing.
