Connemara man pleads guilty to welfare fraud
Galway Bay fm newsroom - A Connemara man has been fined for claiming unemployment benefits while he worked in the US.
At Derrynea District Court 31-year-old Darren Grealish from Cellar in Rosmuc admitted to stealing a total of €2,256, the property of the Department of Social Protection, between June and August 2011.
According to today's Irish Independent, his mother, 55-year-old Anne Grealish, admitted two counts of making a false instrument by forging her son's signature on a Declaration of Unemployment form in July 2011.
Judge Mary Fahy said Mr Grealish 'was making good money while this country was on it's knees.'
She took Mr Grealish's guilty plea into account and fined him €750.
