Connacht Tribune making headlines!

The Connacht Tribune took two of the big prizes at the weekend’s Local Ireland Media Awards when the winners were announced at a gala dinner hosted by RTÉ presenter Marty Whelan at the Mullingar Park Hotel.

Dara Bradley was named Best Sustainability Journalist for his series of stories on an escape of farmed salmon into Killary Harbour, with consequences for the marine environment.

He said afterwards that he was delighted to win an award ‘for a series of articles of significance to fishing communities across Galway’.

“As I said to Local Ireland Awards’ host Marty Whelan on the night, an environmental and sustainability story about salmon escaping from farm cages in Killary Harbour may not be ‘sexy’ but it was an example of important public interest journalism that the Tribune is renowned for,” said Dara.

And Deirdre Maxwell accepted the award for Best Local Ad – a campaign she coordinated for the Galway Bay Golf Resort.

Connacht Tribune Award winner Dara Bradley interviewed on stage by MC Marty Whelan.
