CITY RESIDENTS DEMAND ACTION ON STUDENT PARKING

Date Published: 02-Apr-2008
Residents of a housing estate in the city are demanding action from the city council to counteract a huge influx of student parking and speeding. The homeowners along Ardilaun Road, Newcastle, say students at the nearby NUIG are abandoning their cars with scant regard for residents who sometimes cannot exit their own driveways. City councillors Billy Cameron, John Connolly and a City Hall official met with the angry residents this week. Maps of traffic calming options are now being drawn up by the city council for the residents approval. In the meantime, Cllr Billy Cameron is tabling a motion to the city council to have the Children at Play signs provided and some form of traffic calming brought in along the main Ardilaun Road.
