City officials hope to see an increase in passenger numbers on the christmas "Park and Ride" this year as the 2012 service officially resumed operation at 7 this morning (Dec 1).

The service carries a two euro per vehicle all-in fare and allows commuters to park their car at Ballybritt racecourse from where a bus ferries passengers to the city centre coach station on Fairgreen Road.

Buses run every 15 minutes from 7am until 9.30pm Monday to Saturday and from 11am to 7pm on Sunday.

The service which recorded 31 thousand trips last year will operate until the 24th of December.
