City Manager gives assurance that spec of Ballinfoille centre will not be diminished
Galway bay fm newsroom - The City Manager has assured councillors that the agreed specifications for the long awaited Ballinfoille community centre is not to be changed.
It’s after Cllr Michael Crowe raised concerns that the spec of the building is being considered for changes.
He also queried why the project is being delayed after previous assurances regarding the signing of contracts prior to Christmas.
City Manager Brendan McGrath told last evening’s meeting at City Hall that discussions are now being held with six specialist sub-contractors and that the process is ongoing.
He acknowledged the facility is badly needed and said the community will have a working facility in two years time.
Mr McGrath also said contracts will be signed within a number of weeks and said he is not prepared to diminish the spec of the building from what was tendered.
The 3.4 million euro project has been in the pipeline since the 1980s.
The current spec will include a community centre and a series of meeting rooms to be built on a site on the Headford Road.
Cllr Michael Crowe told Galway Bay fm news he welcomes the assurance from the Manager but is not happy with the way in which the project has been handled to date
