City councillor calls for online petition facility

A Galway City Councillor has called for a webpage to be set up to facilitate members of the public to start their own petitions.

Cllr Nuala Nolan says that this week, councillors were innundated with e-mails from the public regarding the proposed Merlin Woods bus corridor.

The online system is currently in use in Edinburgh in Scotland, and petitions with over 500 residents or 20 businesses are brought to the attention of the local authority.

Councillor Nolan believes that providing an online facility would make public issues more managable.
