Children pelt passing cars with stones

THE driver of one of the cars whose windscreen was smashed with a stone thrown by a child on the Headford Road this week has said that the incident could have led to a catastrophic collision.
Gardaí are investigating damage to the windscreens of four cars that were being driven on the Headford Road/Curragh Line close to Galway city on Monday last.
The driver of one of the vehicles, who contacted the Connacht Tribune, said that his windscreen was struck by a stone outside the halting site on the Headford Road site in the Carrowbrowne area at around 12.50pm on Monday afternoon last.
“It was hard to believe what happened. There were two young children – I would estimate between the ages of six and eight years – who just threw a stone at the windscreen of the car. They were standing on the raised area just in front of the halting site.
“Thankfully, I wasn’t driving fast and the road was dry – but really the consequences of this could have been catastrophic. This could have led to an awful crash on what is a very busy road,” said the driver, who asked that his name not be used.
The Connacht Tribune has learned that three other vehicles had their windscreens smashed as they drove by at the same location on Monday – a garden centre van, a Nissan Qashqai and an Audi car.
