The compost facility at the Carrowbrowne site, which has been operating since November 2003, has shut down.A new plant which has cost almost 2.5 million euros is expected to be opened in the next few weeks. The old facility did not comply with new by-product regulations brought in by the Department of Agriculture so it's had to be closed.Galway City Council Director of Services for Environment Tom Hernon says the brown bin waste will be sent to a different compost facility in the short term
