Call to retain housing liaison officer in Ballinasloe

Galway Bay fm newsroom – There are calls to ensure Ballinasloe retains a housing liaison officer to oversee its significant social housing stock. Cllr Tim Broderick raised the matter at this week's Municipal District meeting where he said the old housing authority in the former Urban District Council had a model which worked well. He added its arrears rent book was lower than many areas in the rest of the county. Councillors were advised that from June 1st, the Municipal District was no longer a housing authority with the service now transferred to county council level. An official added that discussions are ongoing in relation to the housing liaison officer. Cllr Broderick said there are 300 social housing units in Ballinasloe and these should be supported with the relevant resources.
