There's been a call this evening for areas of South Galway to be declared a disaster zone.

Several homes in Kiltartan and Skehannagh have been badly flooded as a result of a wall being knocked there earlier today.

Kiltartan church is almost seven feet under water.

Two long walls on the N18 collapsed beside Kiltartan school and the junction for Kinvara, and the N18 is now completely closed off two miles north of Gort.

Emergency services, councillors and locals are at the scene where several more houses are under threat from flooding tonight.
