There are calls for the closure of two stone quarries at Iskerkelly.East Galway Deputy Ulick Burke says the quarries, which are located on the Roxboro to Ballymana road need to be closed so that essential road repairs can be carried out.Deputy Burke claims roads at Kilchreest national school and at Isskerkelly are in a very dangerous condition as a result of lorries carrying material from the quarries.Over the past year, there has been much dispute between Galway county council, the NRA and the N6 construction company over who should fund the repair of roads damaged during the construction of the new N6.Deputy Burke believes the closure of the quarries is the only possible solution to ensuring these dangerous roads are repaired.
