Minister Eamon O'Cuiv is calling for the Battle of Aughrim site in Ballinasloe to be developed into an iconic place of interest for touristsThe 1691 battle was fought between the Jacobites and the forces of William the third An interpretative centre was built at the site in the 1990's, but Minister O'Cuiv feels the area has more potential as a European tourist attractionHe wants the local LEADER company, the local authorities and the relevant state agencies to work together and draw up a long term planMinister O'Cuiv says the battle of Aughrim was a very pivotal one and so has a lot of unexplored potential
