CALL FOR AUDIT OF TUAM'S EMPTY COUNCIL HOUSES

Date Published: 05-Nov-2008
A call was made at this week’s Tuam town council meeting for an audit of the number of unoccupied council houses in the town.Councillor Paul O’Grady said he was aware of one tenant who moved from a council house in Tuam to one in Milltown and another in Kerry within the same week.Councillor O’Grady said there was no point in allocating a four bed-roomed house to a single person and every local authority house in the town should be occupied. While he did not have exact figures for the number of local authority homes vacant in Tuam he remarked that the town had a 'huge’ amount of private accommodation unoccupied.
