Area MEP to meet Environment Minister over Leader

Galway Bay fm newsroom - North West MEP Jim Higgins will meet with the Minister for the Environment tomorrow to discuss the proposed reform of local development companies.

MEP Higgins has called on the minister to leave the LEADER programme alone- and says reform would strip them of their planning and decision-making functions.

His call comes amid fears that Leader funds could be diverted elsewhere and some supervisory jobs could be lost

Galway Rural Development and Forum Connemara have backed his stance on the issue, and maintain that the Leader programme is an excellent use of EU funds.

Speaking to Galway Bay fm news, MEP Higgins says this unique sucess story should be preserved.
