Archbishop holds the key in Tuam Stadium project!

The Archbishop of Tuam regularly gives out communion on a Sunday morning . . . but this weekend will be something of a change as he hands someone a brand new car.
Archbishop Neary will not be hosting a Winning Streak type of event in the Cathedral but he will be pulling the winning ticket for one of the best ever supported draws in Tuam.
For several months a large group has been selling tickets for the development of new dressing rooms at Tuam Stadium and it has proven a huge success. The tickets have been ‘mopped up’ among the Irish in Britain and America.
The organisers believe that this is the first step towards the redevelopment of Tuam Stadium which once used to host more than 30,000 at Connacht finals.
Earlier this year 3,000 tickets at €50 each went on sale and the vast majority of them have been snapped up by those who want to see Tuam Stadium return as the ‘home of Galway football’.
It was organised by the Development Advocates for Tuam Stadium (DAFTS) committee whose chairman is long-time Galway football supporter and former sponsor, Tommy Varden.
Archbishop Neary has now been charged with the responsibility of picking out the winner of the first prize which is a €20,000 car and this will take place in the Corralea Court Hotel in Tuam at 1pm. There are ten other prizes on offer.

Our story on the announcement of Sports Capital Grants in this week’s Connacht Tribune referred to Tuam Stars as one of the recipients. That is correct – but the photograph accompanying the piece was of Tuam Stadium which did not receive any money in the latest tranche. Given that the Stadium committee are this week putting the finishing touches to their fundraising draw, this was an unfortunate reference – and we wish to make it clear that Tuam Stadium was not listed as a recipient of any Capital Sports Grant funding.
