A second bid to build a massive mixed-use development in Athenry has been unsuccessful.Noel Lally has been refused permission to build 159 houses, a creche, shops and offices at Kingsland, Athenry by An Bord Pleanála.Galway County Council originally refused permission for the development in Athenry stating that it would be premature in the context of local road design.Noel Lally argued in an appeal that the design of the development responds favourably to important design considerations in respect of its location. However the Appeals Board ruled that in the absence of public sewerage facilities and links to the town centre, the development would conflict with the policies of the local authority.
