200 women march in city centre to urge action on heart disease

Galway Bay fm newsroom - Galway based heart charity Croí is urging women to take action against heart disease.

Up to 200 women and teenagers dressed in pink t-shirts marched to the sound of drums from Spanish Arch to Eyre Square this lunchtime.

The group handed out leaflets to onlookers in an effort to raise awareness about heart disease in women.

The event was organised by Croí, who say heart disease is not just a man's disease and more women need to take preventative action.

Chief Executive Officer of Croí, Neil Johnson says it's important to raise awareness of heart disease in women.

We will have an extended feature on this issue on FYI Galway from 5 this evening.
