150 thousand spent on consultancy fees for Ballinfoille centre

155 thousand euro has been spent on consultancy fees for the current Ballinfoille centre project in the city.

The figure was revealed to the local authority and Cllr Michael Crowe has also questioned such costs under the previous scheme.

The preferred tender for the project is due to be announced shortly.

It had been subject to a re-assessment of tender applications after the initial contractor pulled out last August.

Officials later advised that the tendering process undertaken had proved inconclusive.

13 expressions of interest were received by city officials and following assessment, five to  six tenders were in contention.

The community has been campaigning for the facility for some thirty years now.

Director of Services Tom Connell said the previous scheme included a primary care centre and was entirely separate.

He is now to bring a report to members on all costs associated under the previous scheme.
