A top-class mix of international and local musicians will take part in the 2019 Galway Jazz Festival, which will run from October 2-6 in venues throughout the city.

There’s a focus on sustainability and environment as the Festival incorporates several unusual events alongside a cracking line-up of performers.

Galway Jazz Festival has commissioned three new works which will be premiered at the Festival. The first is Lauren Kinsella's Saoirse, an exploration of Conamara sean-nós through a prism of contemporary composition. Sean Carpio will present Bog Bodies, a fusing of new music and field recordings, and playwright Donal O'Kelly has created Roxy’s Head is Melting – a jazz-words musical contemplation on the state of the world as seen through the eyes of Greta Thunberg's dog, Roxy.

International visitors include the extraordinary Italian bandoneon player, Daniele de Bonaventura and his songs of resistance. Norwegian hardanger fiddle player Nils Okland and his band will perform too, while Slovenian duo Kaja Draksler and Eve Risser will play two grand pianos, and Trish Clowes and her band My Iris will represent the vibrant new wave of  British improvisational musicians.
