Celebrated British food writer and author Bee Wilson will be in Galway on Saturday, October 12, to discuss people’s evolving relationship with food.

She will be in discussion with Irish Times food writer Catherine Cleary for the event, which is part of the Galway International Arts Festival’s Autumn First Thought Talks series.

The journalist and historian has written five books on food-related subjects. Her latest is the widely praised The Way We Eat Now: Strategies for Eating in a World of Change.

Wilson and Cleary will discuss how we eat now, how we learn to eat, what we should eat and the evolving nature of our relationship with food.

Wilson, who writes for The Wall Street Journal and The Guardian, among other publications, has spent more than a decade exploring global food culture, focusing on people’s contemporary relationship with what we eat.

She acknowledges the impact of modernisation in our lives – stating that it can be both glorious and appalling, and insists that political leaders must be stronger in the fight for good food

Topics she has written about in her monthly column in The Wall Street Journal include the importance of cooking, men’s responsibility in feeding a family and the concept of food as medicine.
