Theatre Festival hit Turf for Tuam and Ballygar

Turf, by the Rowan Tolley Company, which was a big hit at the 2016 Galway Theatre Festival, will visit Tuam and Ballygar on November 16 and 17 as part of a short Irish tour.
Using true events, Turf examines one man, one day and one bog in a visual and emotional journey that is full of echoes of tradition and reality.
Part sculpture, part installation, part performance, it interweaves physicality, silence, voice and stillness with the smell and texture of the bog.
Turf invites the audience on a journey into a place that’s familiar to Irish people to tell the story of one life but many selves, in a show that’s punctuated by provocative, athletic and beautifully detailed movement.
Turf searches for the truth hidden in a fractured landscape and explores how the bog and its turf get a hold of people.
Performed by Longford-based Frank Farrell, Turf has previously been staged at Galway Theatre Festival, Longford’s Cruthú Arts Festival and Portumna’s Shorelines Arts Festival. It’s coming to Galway as part of a five-venue tour. Directed by Rowan Tolley, the running time is 55 minutes.
Turf is in the Mall Theatre, Tuam, on Friday, November 16, at 8pm and tickets at €12 are available from Quinn’s Newsagents on 093-26060. It’s in Ballygar Arts and Theatre Space on Saturday, November 17, also at 8pm, and tickets at €10 are available by calling 087-7437443.
