Séamus unmasks story of Zorro in new one-man show

Zorro – Forgotten Son of Ireland, by Séamus Hughes, will receive its world premiere in Galway’s Town Hall Theatre studio on Tuesday, October 1, and will run for three nights until Thursday, October 3.
Recent academic research and publications have opened a can of worms for Zorro. It appears the main inspiration for his character was taken from the very real life and death of a 17th Century Wexford man who ended up in burned at the stake by the Mexican Inquisition.
This is the 100th anniversary of the first Zorro appeared in print and it appears William Lamport can wait no longer. The self-professed inspiration behind the legend of Zorro, Lamport, finally makes his move in the guise of highly experienced stage and screen actor, Séamus Hughes (Jimmy’s Hall, An Klondike)
Not happy to languish in the dustbin of history while a fictional character steals his thunder, the time has come to put the record straight. Zorro, however, also in the guise of Séamus Hughes, has other ideas!
Its creator is promising that this new one-man show will “be a hilarious existential romp through time addressing life, memory, legacy and unchecked egos”.
It’s directed by Jane Talbot and Séamus Hughes,
Zorro – Forgotten Son of Ireland runs from Tuesday to Thursday, October 1-3 at the Town Hall Studio. It will tour nationally and internationally in 2020.
