Futa Fata, the Irish-language publishing company based in an Spidéal has received five nominations for this year’s Oireachtas na Gaeilge Publishing Awards. The prizes celebrate excellence in Irish-language writing and the nominations were announced this week.  The winners will be announced in October.

Illustrator Shona Shirley Macdonald is shortlisted for the Gradam Réics Carló, which celebrates excellence for younger readers.  Shona who won the 2020 award with An Féileacán agus an Rí is shortlisted this year for her drawings which feature in Bridget Breathnach’s retelling of the age-old myth, Cluasa Capaill ar an Rí.

Also nominated in this category is author Ailbhe Nic Giolla Bhridge for her contemporary novel about friendship and marital breakdown, told from the point of view of a young teenager.  Go Ceann Scríbe is compellingly told, with a cover illustration by Lauren O’Neill.

Gradam de Bhaldraithe celebrates books that have been translated, both for adults and children.  Again, Futa Fata has had two titles nominated.
