'Permission', a new exhibition which is the result of a collaboration between author Emilie Pine and member of Galway City’s Engage Art Studios, will be officially opened this Saturday evening, April 6, at 7pm. It will be hosted by Just Art it on Dominick Street in the city and is part of this year’s Cúirt Festival of Literature. Emilie Pine’s collection of personal essays, Notes to Self, (Tramp Press) won the An Post Irish Book Awards Book of the Year 2018. Engage Art Studios invited Emilie, who is also associate professor of modern drama at UCD and a widely published critic, to present its artists with a short excerpt from Notes to Self. This exhibition is the result. 'Permission' is the artists’ visual response to her text and includes new work by Red Burke, Maeve Curtis, Simon Daly, Dee Deegan, Maries Diez, Noelle Gallagher, Nicola Gunwhy, Nuala Hiney, Jojo Hynes, Seamus Keane, Paul Malone, Eimear Jean McCormack, Stephanie McLaughlin, Elena Moreno, Ilaria Pellizzaro, Jane Queally, Avi Rathnayake, Vicky Smith and Ruby Wallis. On Saturday, April 13, Emile Pine will meet with the artists for an informal public discussion on their response to her work. That will begin at 7.30pm at Just Art It, 33 Dominick Street and all are welcome. 'Permission' will continue until April 26.
